PE and Sport Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Sports Premium

The Sports Premium Grant is funding that comes into schools that is ring-fenced to be spent on the development of sports provision for all pupils.

Schools are free to spend the Sports Premium Grant as they see fit, but will be held accountable for its usage. From April 2014, the school is required to publicise information about its use of Sports Premium Grant.

At Hose School, we allocate the Sports Premium Grant based upon the development needs identified in the school’s self-evaluation. As we teach with a personalised approach, reporting in detail would compromise an individual’s privacy. It is important however that we share how the Sport’s Premium is going to be used for the children and the impact it will have on raising standards both in the delivery of sport and attainment across the school.

Impact of Sports Provision

As a result of using the Sports grant we have a seen marked increase in enthusiasm and engagement with sports. We have seen improved engagement with out of school sports, local sporting events and collaboration with other local schools.

 Impact has been measured by:

  • Direct feedback by teachers on the quality of support offered by the specialist coaches for individual school sports.
  • Evaluation of the quality of provision of extra-curricular clubs in relation to physical activity and school sport.
  • Increase in the number of children engaging in school sporting activities both within school and with other local schools.
  • We are currently developing a questionnaire to help measure current interest and enthusiasm by our pupils.
  • Increased range of sports observed both during lunchtimes and play times.
  • Developing a successful Young Ambassadors programme involving pupils from Class 3.

Our Sports Premium 2017/18

The PE and Sports Premium Grant funding for 2017/18 was £16,510

Spending in 2017/18 was primarily targeted towards providing additional professional sports coaching, sports equipment, hiring facilities to carry out sports and transport to other sporting venues. Our aim was to increase the amount of sporting activities which pupils can take part in both inside and outside of the school day eg. club level and local sporting events.

The money was spent on the following:

  • Professional sports coaching for each child to raise standards in PE not covered by in-house staff and provide training opportunities for staff to ensure that these improvements are sustainable.
  • Provide additional sports by organising extra-curricular clubs ensuring that a variety of sports are offered.
  • Contribute to the hire of sports facilities at the Village Hall to enable a variety of indoor and outdoor sports to be experienced due to the lack of school space.
  • Increase the participation of all pupils in local sporting events.
  • Further develop the variety of sporting equipment and opportunities for all children in school.

Our Year 6 cohort attained the following on leaving our school:

  • 100 % of our cohort for the academic year 2017/18 Swam competently, confidently and were proficient over a distance of at least 25 metres.
  • 90% used a range of strokes effectively.
